Local Number Portability is a government mandate that requires wireless and landline service providers to allow customers with eligible phone numbers to retain their phone numbers when changing service providers.
How do I join Verizon Wireless and keep my current phone number?
This process is also called porting. Most phone numbers are eligible to be ported, however porting a number may be limited based on your geography, service area coverage, technology or ownership of the line you're porting the number from. Check if you have an eligible phone number. If your number is eligible you can transfer it to Verizon Wireless when you activate a line with Verizon Wireless
What information will I need to provide when transferring my number to Verizon Wireless?
When transferring your number, please be ready to provide the following information:
The current active number that you want to transfer to Verizon
The account number of your old service provider as it appears on your bill
Note: If you're requesting to have your number transferred in-person, please bring your most recent bill with you.
A PIN or Password. This is an additional level of security you may have added to your account. It is required to complete your number transfer. This is not your site login password.
A phone number where you can be reached during the transfer process (other than the number you're porting)
Providing incorrect information will delay the transfer process because a Customer Service Representative will need to contact you for the correct details.
